At Indore Literature Festival

1 edition

Biography from the 2025 festival collection.

Ms. Divya Mathur is a luminous figure in diasporic Indian literature—one who has transcended boundaries through the power of words, bringing Indian sensibilities to the global stage. As the founder and chief editor of Vatayan–Europe, she has built literature into a bridge of dialogue and cultural refinement. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an Arts Achiever recognized by the Arts Council of England, she has been honored with the Padma Bhushan Moturi Satyanarayana Literary Award, the Vanmali Katha Samman, and a special recognition at the National University of Singapore by the Prime Minister of Mauritius. Her writings reflect the depth of womanhood, the complexities of expatriate life, and the profound roots of Indian culture. Spanning nine short story collections, eight poetry anthologies, and three novels, her creative journey is a confluence of thought, compassion, and beauty. Kamleshwar described her stories as “a union of culture and sensitivity,” while Rupert Snell recognized in them “a bridge between the East and the West.” Asghar Wajahat called her “a storyteller of ideas,” and Prof. Indranath Choudhuri praised her writing as “an expansion of a vast heart.” Divya Mathur’s stories are chronicles of the Indian soul born in exile—carrying the fragrance of its native soil across time, distance, and circumstance. Within them flow the depth of life, the resilience of womanhood, and the gentle resonance of human compassion.
